As an experienced and distinguished orchestra musician, Kunert has gained special insights into the workings of an orchestra and musicians’ capabilities and needs. He now draws on these insights in his role as a conductor, particularly with regard to the psychology of rehearsal; developing appropriate forms of expression; generating enthusiasm; the relationship between virtuosity and precision; musical internal differentiation; phrasing and characterisation; exploring extremes; dynamic nuances; timbre and tonal combinations; communicating the shared joy of making music; musical dramaturgy and transitions; and achieving the perfect balance between stage and orchestra pit. With respect to opera, Kunert has special expertise in the works of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Strauss.
